Eichberg view

Looking into the opposite direction from where I took the Eichberg photo, you sometimes get a good view over to the other side of the Rhine river valley. And since Fall is the hunting season, this is one of the high stands in the area. The hunters go especially after wild boars since they are a plague in Spring (devastating the vineyards). But of course there are strong rules and restrictions for hunting.

Eichberg

At least I've got one photo with Fall colors for you: this is the area between Kiedrich and Kloster Eberbach called Eichberg. It hosts a Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapie in a wonderful setting with a great view.

Wine Tasting

An impression from a wine tasting I recently was invited to. Each round we got two wines in our glasses to compare to each other - the winery has vineyards at the Rhine and at the Mosel and it's been very interesting to taste the different outcomes. The big round bottle in the middle is for the leftovers in the glasses (especially for the wines you didn't like, if there are some...). And quite important - some bread on the side!

Ruin of Burg Ehrenfels

Photo: Courtesy of Christel Bausinger

Between Rüdesheim and Assmanshausen you can find the ruins of Burg Ehrenfels which dates back to the year 943. It's been one of the points where the ships had to pay their taxes in order to be allowed to pass. There are several others along the Rhine in this area which are best seen during a Rhine boat trip!

Schloss Vollrads in Fall

You probably remember this one - I've shown pictures of Schloss Vollrads several times before. This is the view in Fall with golden vineyards in the front.

Morning Fog over the Rhine in Rüdesheim

Since it's Fall now it can get a bit foggy in the mornings these days. Here is the view through the wine leaves down to the Rhine where the ferry from Rüdesheim is crossing.

And another sunset...

Fall is a great time for dramatic skies and great sunsets. And this is one of my favorite spots along the Rhine to take photos of them :).

Angler at the Rhine

Fortunately, water quality in the Rhine is constantly improving. Especially in the evening you can watch anglers trying their luck on different spots along the waterside.

Fallen Leaves

Typical sign for fall - the leaves are falling. For me this also means a lot of street cleaning ;).

Basilica in Mittelheim in Fall

The basilica in Mittelheim is the oldest church in the Rheingau. The church you see nowadays dates back to the 12th cenury but it's built on fundaments from the 10th century. In the front you see the back of a sign stating "Jesuitengarten" - this is one of the names for the wine from Mittelheim (only vineyards in a certain area get this name - in German we call it "Weinlage").

Sunset over Mittelheim

Another one of these walk along the Rhine. I just loved the sunset. If you look closer you'll see that we weren't the only ones getting some fresh air :).
