Rhine in Fog

This morning the area around the Rhine river was completely covered with fog (something that reminds me of San Francisco). Very mystic atmosphere!

Wine in September

Soon the wine harvesting is going to start (some areas have already started, actually). Looking at the grapes I'd say it's going to be a good year, quantity-wise. Not sure about the quality yet - we'll have to wait and see.

Small alley in Eltville

One of these small alleys in Eltville that are just nice to look at (in my opinion). If you know your way around Eltville - this is the one going towards the Kurfürstliche Burg.

Eltviller Staatsweingüter

Not all wineries in the Rheingau are small family businesses. A few of them are state held like the one on the photo which is located in Eltville. Kloster Eberbach also belongs to the Staatsweingüter Eltville.

Vineyards

This photo is maybe a bit abstract but it shows vineyards on a hill growing in different directions.

Filling Wine Bottles

This might look like an extravagant fountain (or something like that) but it is actually a machine used to fill wine into the bottles. It's not used at the moment since the new wine soon is gonna be harvested, but in a few months...

Restaurant Gelbes Haus

A nice restaurant in a old timbered house in the old town of Eltville. It's painted yellow so they called it yellow house (Gelbes Haus), or the other way around (who knows ;) ).

Sea Buckthorn (Sanddorn)

I hope the translation is correct (I had to look it up). When I walked by I really liked the combination of the colors of the sea buckthorn and the brick house, so I just had to take a photo :).

Fachwerkhaus under construction III

Photo: Courtesy of Sabine Falkenstein - Thanks Sabine!

Since I like the perspective of this photo a lot, I'm also posting it here. It's the same building as yesterday, but with a much better view of the details.

Fachwerkhaus under construction II

Photo: Courtesy of Sabine Falkenstein - Thanks Sabine!

Remember the Fachwerkhaus I showed you in April? This is how it looks like at the moment. Unfortunately, you cannot see what has changed inside but on the outside (if you look closer) you can see that the ground floor got new windows, some of the wooden beams had to be replaced and only some parts of the old filling between the beams is left.

Decorated Recycling Container

This is a recycling container for green glass - there are different containers for different colored glass: one for brown, one for green and one for white glass (every other color can go into the brown glass container). And since the Rheingau is a wine region I like how this container is decorated (even though the paint is fading). :)

Relaxing in the evening

After a long day of work, a lot of people enjoy relaxing at the Rhine river - either by taking a walk, jogging or doing a bike trip, or just by sitting down and watching the ships go by. Especially in summer this meadow here in Hattenheim is often used by sun bathers and people having a picnic.

Watering cans at the cemetery

I'm not sure if this is a German thing or if you see this in other countries as well: most of the people here who take care of a grave at the cemetery have their own watering can tied up close to the entrance. I have to add that most graves have plants and flowers planted on them which need to get watered on a regular basis (as you can see a little bit in the background).

Cars from car show

I found these cars from a car show that happened last weekend parked on a parking lot of a local supermarket. They were quite a sight, but to be honest, these kinds of cars look a little bit out of dimension to me and I'm quite happy that they are not allowed in regular traffic ;).

Doorway at Kloster Marienthal

It's September and I'm back from my vacation month. Thank you so much for visiting my blog, leaving comments or sending me emails in the meantime (I'll hopefully be able to answer most of them this weekend)!

Since "doorways" is the theme of the City Daily Photo Bloggers today, I'm joining in with this photo of the entrance to the Kloster Marienthal. Please also visit the other blogs to see their doorway photos.
