Kelter (Wine Press)

This is an old wine press (called "Kelter" or "Weinpresse" in German) displayed in Eltville next to the rose garden. Presses like this one were used to get the juice out of the grapes. Nowadays there are machines doing that job, but these old wine presses are still nice to look at.

Lucky you...to have found one still standing :-) I haven't seen one like that around where I live...I guess they are all destroyed or maybe some are still being used actually :-D don't know.

Maybe, just maybe there are a few of these old presses being used on a farm here and there.

How interesting! & lovely, especially with all the colorful & beautiful surroundings.

Also enjoyed, Rose Garden in Eltville(stunning!) & Entrance to Brentanohaus in Winkel(loved the inscription & design/decoration of the building).

I have spent hundreds of hours lately immersed in microfilm copies of the old parish records from Eltville, Kiedrich, Presberg, and Hallgarten--researching family history. Thank you so much for giving me a living picture! I truly appreciate your postings.
