Weißkopfseeadler
One of the birds at the eagle enclosure up at the Niederwald in Rüdesheim. This one is a bald eagle (Weißkopfseeadler in German). He was a bit unsteady - probably because of Spring in the air and he wanted to fly and check out the area - so it was a bit hard to catch him. I think they also change feathers in Spring, is that right?
Theme of the City Daily Photo Bloggers today is to post a symbolic picture from our city that can be linked to another city/country. Since the bald eagle is a very symbolic figure for the United States of America, I'm linking it to Jenny from Sharon, CT, USA who had the idea of this theme.

There he is :-) Nice catch then, Nicola...it seems like he's thinking about something ;-P How many are there in the enclosure? Do they fly freely or they're in captivity? I guess that's enclosure means...yes? no?
Thanks lorraine!
maya - they told us that the number of eagles are constantly changing since they are also a "eagle hospital" meaning when someone finds an injured bird they take care of it and release it again. Others are kept here in the enclosure and some of them get trained.
Great photo, nicola, and thanks for the "shout out" as we say! I've seen them live quite a few times, and it's always a thrill!
Fabulous photo, Nicola!
Creative idea and wonderful photo.
Awesome photo, it would be nice to have one in your backyard like this guy:

Beautiful creature.
The eyes are what amaze me. Their intensity. Their ability to see such great distances.
Maybe was difficult to catch him well but you did a smacking good job doing it! =)

wolf - thanks for the link! Cool to watch it via a webcam.
That word that starts with "W" is such a long word for eagle - hmmm I wonder if it means something more than simply "Eagle" I used to enjoy drawing eagles when I was little.
Yep, this is one of the popular German long words. It literally means "white head sea eagle".
Great shot!!! i don't know, but i want to touch his head!! in spite that for sure i would get a bite!! Great eagle portrait!!
