St. Valentinus church in Kiedrich

The St. Valentinus church in Kiedrich from around 1380 is a popular location for weddings in the Rheingau. It has the oldest, still playable, gothic organ in Germany.

I just liked the view through a small side gate that I captured here, so I decided to share it.

So many of the buildings seem to have that wonderful colour to them. It also quite amazing how these buildings have lasted so well for hundreds of years, don't think we build like that these days.

lisi & jasp - thanks! I see, I have to do a posting on the color of the stone - it's a kind of sandstone. It's a very typical stone for this area.

grainofsand - thanks for visiting and your compliments! Always appreciated! :)

Thanks, lorraine! Yes, fotoaddict, it's still used for weddings! When I get a chance to take some inside pictures, you'll see why. It's really pretty!

Nicola, this is a beautiful picture of my home town church. I live in Up State New York now but I am from Kiedrich, in fact my Dad used to play the organ in that church for over 50 years. He died recently and I was home for his funeral. My son gave me the link to this blog and I enjoy your Rheingau Pictures very much. Thank you!
